CARRIER OILS: THE BASE
Carrier oils make up most of the bottle. They carry the herbs to the scalp, condition the hair shaft and decide how the oil feels: Root Revive is built on light, fast-absorbing oils, with castor for richness.
| Ingredient | INCI name | What it does in Root Revive |
|---|---|---|
| Jojoba | Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil | A liquid wax ester close in structure to the scalp's own sebum, so it absorbs without a greasy film. The first ingredient in the formula. |
| Argan | Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil | Rich in oleic and linoleic fatty acids and vitamin E. Softens strands, adds shine and helps smooth the look of frizz. |
| Sweet almond | Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil | A light conditioning oil that helps the blend spread and leaves hair feeling soft. |
| Castor | Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil | The classic Ayurvedic scalp oil. Thick, cushioning and rich in ricinoleic acid, it coats strands so they feel conditioned and look glossy. |
| Coconut | Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil | A small-molecule oil that conditions the hair shaft and adds slip. In a 2003 study it reduced protein loss from hair when used as a pre-wash or post-wash treatment. |
| Olive | Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil | Squalene and oleic acid for softness and shine. |
| Sunflower | Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil | A light, linoleic-rich oil that keeps the blend from feeling heavy. |
BOTANICAL OILS AND EXTRACTS: THE HERBS
The essential oils and extracts are what you smell and feel on application. They also give the formula its Ayurvedic character: head oiling with herb-infused oils is a centuries-old practice in India, and rosemary, jasmine and ginseng all have long histories in traditional hair care.
| Ingredient | INCI name | What it does in Root Revive |
|---|---|---|
| Rosemary | Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil | The scalp classic in both Ayurvedic and Mediterranean hair care. Cool, herbal scent; leaves the scalp feeling invigorated. |
| Peppermint | Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil | Menthol gives the light tingle you feel on application and a fresh feeling on the scalp. |
| Green tea | Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract | Polyphenol-rich leaf extract with antioxidant properties, included to nourish the scalp. |
| Ginseng | Panax Ginseng Root Extract | A root extract with a long history in Asian herbal traditions, included to nourish and condition the scalp. |
| Calendula | Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract | Marigold flower extract, traditionally used in gentle skin preparations. Easy on the scalp. |
| Tea tree | Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca Alternifolia Leaf Oil) | Helps the scalp feel clean and fresh, and sharpens the scent. |
| Lavender | Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil | Softens the herbal scent and suits a bedtime routine. |
| Jasmine | Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Oil | The floral note in the scent and a traditional ingredient in Indian hair oils. |
VITAMINS AND LIPIDS: THE ACTIVES
| Ingredient | INCI name | What it does in Root Revive |
|---|---|---|
| Vitamin A | Retinyl Palmitate, Beta-Carotene | Two oil-soluble forms of vitamin A (beta-carotene is the provitamin), used in scalp and skin care for conditioning. |
| Vitamin C | Ascorbyl Palmitate | An oil-soluble form of vitamin C that also helps protect the oils in the bottle from oxidation. |
| Vitamin E | Tocopheryl Acetate, d-alpha-tocopherol | Two forms of vitamin E. An antioxidant that helps keep the oils fresh and leaves hair feeling conditioned. |
| Vitamin B3 | Niacinamide | Water-soluble vitamin B3, widely used in scalp and skin care. |
| Lipids and water | Phospholipids, Lecithin, Water | Plant-derived lipids that let the water-soluble niacinamide and the vitamin actives blend evenly with the oils. |
WHAT IS NOT IN IT
- No mineral oil or petrolatum.
- No silicones.
- No synthetic fragrance or "parfum". The scent comes from the essential oils in the formula.
- No minoxidil or other drug ingredients. Root Revive is a cosmetic.
- No mushroom ingredients, despite the MushroomElixir name.
HOW THE INGREDIENTS ARE USED
Part the hair, apply one drop to each section of the scalp, massage until absorbed, and leave it in overnight or wash it out in the morning, a few nights a week. The carrier oils do the conditioning, the herbs do the scent and the scalp feel, and the vitamins ride along in the oil. The full routine is on the how to use page.
A NOTE ON CLAIMS
Root Revive is a cosmetic, not a drug. It nourishes the scalp and supports the look of thicker, fuller hair. It is not intended to treat hair loss or any other condition, and nothing on this page should be read as a medical claim. If you have a scalp condition, talk to a dermatologist.
